Butamirate Citrate
Overall, the tolerance of Butamirate Citrate is good. Rare adverse reactions such as rash, nausea, diarrhea, and vertigo have been observed, resolving after dose reduction or treatment withdrawal.
Butamirate acts centrally as a cough suppressant, effectively targeting non-productive cough.
Butamirate Citrate acts directly on the brain's cough center to suppress cough. It is safe and non-sedating, neither chemically nor pharmacologically related to opium alkaloids. After oral administration, Butamirate Citrate is rapidly and completely absorbed. The maximum concentration is reached within 9 hours with the sustained-release tablet. It is highly protein-bound and has a plasma elimination half-life of approximately 13 hours. The active metabolites of Butamirate Citrate also exhibit antitussive activity.
Concomitant use of expectorants may lead to mucous retention in the respiratory system, increasing the risk of bronchospasm and airway infection.
Hypersensitivity to the medication.
Butamirate Citrate should be avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy. During the remainder of pregnancy, it can be used if indicated by a physician but with caution. Caution should also be exercised during breastfeeding due to insufficient data on its elimination in breast milk.
Butamirate Citrate suppresses the cough reflex; therefore, concurrent use with expectorants should be avoided to prevent mucus retention and reduce the risk of bronchospasm and respiratory infections. If a cough persists for more than 7 days (more than 3 days in children under 12 years of age), medical advice should be sought.
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of children's reach.
